Inflation How Does Inflation Work?

چکیده

The basic workings of inflationary models are summarized, along with the arguments that strongly suggest that our universe is the product of inflation. I describe the quantum origin of density perturbations, giving a heuristic derivation of the scale invariance of the spectrum and the leading corrections to scale invariance. The mechanisms that lead to eternal inflation in both new and chaotic models are described. Although the infinity of pocket universes produced by eternal inflation are unobservable, it is argued that eternal inflation has real consequences in terms of the way that predictions are extracted from theoretical models. Although inflation is generically eternal into the future, it is not eternal into the past: it can be proven under reasonable assumptions that the inflating region must be incomplete in past directions, so some physics other than inflation is needed to describe the past boundary of the inflating region. The ambiguities in defining probabilities in eternally inflating spacetimes are reviewed, with emphasis on the youngness paradox that results from a synchronous gauge regularization technique. 1.

Core Inflation and Economic Growth, Does Nonlinearity Matters? A Nonlinear Granger Causality Analysis

T his empirical analysis endeavors to trace out the causal nexus between core inflation and economic growth from the perspective of twenty worlds’ leading economy with the help of the nonlinear Granger causality approach by using time series data from 1981 to 2016. Based on nonlinear Granger causality results, it has been found that there is unidirectional casualty running from core ...

Threshold Effects in the Monetary Policy Reaction Function: Evidence from Central Bank of Iran

Determining how monetary policy makers react to changes in key economic variables has been of major interest to monetary economists. Estimates of monetary policy rules (reaction functions) are a widely used method for doing this. Behavior differs under different policy regimes, as in rule-based systems or chronic inflation. In practice, estimates of instrument rules have been used to descri...

Does the exchange rate regime make a difference in inflation performance in developing and emerging countries?: The role of inflation targeting

We apply propensity score matching estimators with multiple outcomes to evaluate the impacts of exchange rate regimes (fixed, intermediate, and flexible without inflation targeting) and inflation targeting on inflation rates in emerging and developing countries. An inflation-targeting regime does better than or at least as good work as a fixed regime in lowering inflation rates when compared wi...
